In July 1969, the year after Haruki Murakami entered Waseda University, students brought out a piano that had been stored in the Okuma Auditorium and held a free jazz concert by the Yosuke Yamashita Trio [Yosuke Yamashita (p), Seiichi Nakamura (ts), Takeo Moriyama (ds)] in Building 4 (now Building 8) on campus, during the height of the school conflict. A free jazz live performance was held. Legend has it that even the opposing student sects listened to the soulful performance of the Yosuke Yamashita Trio on that one occasion. Yosuke Yamashita was 26 years old at the time, and this performance became his debut album.
The Waseda University International Literature Center (Haruki Murakami Library) was called Building No. 8 when it was completed in 1969, and is now Building No. 4 on the Waseda Campus, with the piano from "Peter Cat" (the jazz bar that Haruki Murakami ran) on the first basement floor (the piano placed in the Sendagaya store after it moved from Kokubunji). The piano is located on the first floor of the basement.

Haruki Murakami Presents Yosuke Yamashita Trio Re-entry Live" co-sponsored by TOKYO FM and Waseda University will be held this time. Haruki Murakami, who lived his college life during the time when the Yosuke Yamashita Trio performed live and continues to talk about freedom, ideals, and love through his novels, will perform a free jazz concert at the "Building No. 4", which has transcended more than a half century (53 years) to encourage students with his powerful music. The event will be a reenactment of the legendary live performance by Haruki Murakami and Yosuke Yamashita, who has been giving encouragement to students with his powerful free jazz music for more than half a century (53 years). It will be a space that conveys the "energy of music" to all generations, not to mention the young people living in 2022, when the world situation will be greatly shaken.

The Yosuke Yamashita Trio's "Ran-in Live" held in 1969 at Waseda University's Building No. 4 has become a legendary story. This time, on the occasion of the opening of the "Waseda University International Literature Center and Murakami Library," the trio came up with the wild idea of holding another "Ran-in Live" concert with the same members.
The official name of the concert is "Haruki Murakami presents Yosuke Yamashita Trio Re-entry Live.

Thanks to Haruki Murakami's guidance, I will be performing at Waseda University's Okuma Auditorium for the first time in 53 years, since 1969, as the first trio of Seiichi Nakamura and Takeo Moriyama. On the day of the concert, I hope to perform as I did in my twenties.
The social situation has changed dramatically since those days, but the world is still as tumultuous as ever.
I will be happy if our performance will convey something to the young generation of today. I am looking forward to it.
